What If Coaching Doesn’t Work for Me?

What If Coaching Doesn’t Work for Me?

You’ve probably read a few coaching success stories.
You’ve seen the promises.
You’ve wondered: “What if I try it… and it doesn’t work?”

If you’ve asked this, you’re not alone. In fact, it's one of the most honest and important questions a woman can ask before beginning a coaching journey — especially in midlife, when life already feels uncertain or like it’s shifting beneath your feet.

This post is here to answer that question without hype, pressure, or false guarantees.

🧭 What Does “Work” Even Mean?

Before you decide whether coaching might work for you, pause and consider:
What would “working” look like to you?

  • Feeling clearer?

  • Making a decision you’ve been avoiding?

  • Reconnecting with confidence?

  • Simply being heard in a space where you don’t have to hold it all together?

The truth is, coaching is rarely about instant transformation.
It's about small, steady shifts — and the space to name what you want without apology.

❤️ Coaching Isn’t Magic — and It Isn’t Passive

Coaching works with you, not on you.

That means:

  • You’re not being fixed.

  • You’re not being advised from a distance.

  • You’re not following a script.

Instead, you’re gently invited to explore:

  • What’s holding you back

  • What beliefs you’ve outgrown

  • What’s possible when you stop pushing yourself to fit someone else’s mould

✨ When Coaching Doesn’t Work Well

Let’s be radically honest:

Coaching might not work if…

  • You're not ready or willing to engage openly (and that’s okay — timing matters)

  • You’re expecting someone else to “solve” your problems

  • You’re dealing with unresolved trauma or mental health challenges best supported by a therapist

  • The coach isn’t a good fit — and that happens sometimes

That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It just means the conditions weren’t right yet.

🌿 What Helps Coaching Work Best?

If you do decide to explore coaching, here are a few things that support your success:

  • 🧘‍♀️ Curiosity over certainty – You don’t need all the answers. You just need to be open.

  • 🗣 Honest communication – Let your coach know what’s working and what isn’t. It helps shape the process.

  • 🪴 Self-compassion – You’re human. Change takes time, and that’s not a flaw.

  • 🤝 A good relationship – Trust and connection matter more than any coaching method.

  • 🤝 The work - your coach will give you exercises and tasks to do between sessions. Do them, you'll learn from what you do. The learning is really important, you coach will help you use this to enable you to meet your goals.

💬 So… Will It Work?

Here’s my learning from my experience (from being a coach and being coached):

Coaching works when you show up for yourself in the process.
And even then, “working” might not look the way you expect.
Sometimes, it’s softer. Slower. More personal.

If you go in with curiosity — not pressure — it’s almost impossible to come away unchanged.

📝 In Summary

It’s okay to question it.
It’s okay to feel unsure.
It’s even okay to try it and walk away if it’s not for you right now.

That doesn’t make you weak. It makes you wise.

You’re not here to be sold something. You’re here to find out what’s truly supportive for you in this season.

Coaching is one path — and only you can decide if it’s yours to walk.
